"It is a challenge to describe the full Barbados Singing Holiday experience! It takes your heart, your soul and your body. A couple of years ago I attended an 'open day' (organised by Mike in London) to see if I could possibly sing with a choir. I have always wanted to sing but never really had the opportunity and certainly never the confidence. Well, that changed that day. I felt included and supported immediately even though I am a very nervous and new singer. I signed up for their UK Weekend Singing Retreat and was blown away by Mike and Carol and the other singers who were there. I vowed to go to Barbados. I made it this year! I would give it 10 stars if I could. The most idyllic beach location. Right on the ocean. A glorious villa where we were looked after royally and where the chef cooked us amazing local dishes. We sang in the mornings and then had the afternoons free - to sing some more perhaps whilst lolling in the calm sea, or to catch a bus or taxi to explore local sights and fab restaurants, or to curl up with a book, or to spend time in the company of the other singers. The group was great. We had some incredible voices and then a range down to my novice attempts. Having said that, I was supported and encouraged at every stage. I was never once made to feel silly or incapable. The warmth and inclusion of Carol and Mike and the other singers was tangible and I was made to feel confident enough to sing a few lines on my own for our little local concert at the end of the trip. It was all fabulous and.... I will do it again! Thank you Mike and Carol, and my new friends."

My Beautiful Holiday in October 2014 with Barbados Singing Holidays

"I had had a tough 5 years with 3 close family members dying and felt that I needed to do something momentous to start a new happy period of my life.  Barbados Singing Holidays was my marker in the sand.  I just knew that it would be a special, happy experience.

I loved every minute of it and it exceeded all my expectations.  From the first moment, I was welcomed into the Barbados family by Mike and Carol and felt part of things.  The villa is the most beautiful place you can imagine and it is just a few steps from the garden on the sand into the sea.  You spend the whole time being hypnotised by the sea and the sky and on my first morning I was drawn by the sound of the sea to swim at about 6am as the sun came up.  The sea is warm and gentle and you feel as though you are a new person and nothing else matters.  I think I started every day with an early morning swim and a walk along the beach and just feeling glad to be alive.

Ebb Tide, the villa, is like a dream.  It is exactly as it looks on the website, but more so.  You feel like a film star going up the sweeping stair case, sitting in a cane chair on the veranda, eating at the gorgeous dining table, walking round the gardens.  What makes it special is that is it completely open onto the beach so wherever you are you just gaze at the sea.  My room was a dream come true – double doors that opened onto the balcony and I could hear the sea at night.  A beautiful huge bed and bathroom with a porthole that looked out onto the sea.  What more can I say.

Mike and Carol are wonderful hosts and nothing is too much trouble to make you feel at home.  The housekeeper and cook are the sweetest ladies and the food is wonderful – you mostly eat out on the terrace, with the sea and sun or moon shining down.  It honestly is like something out of a movie, not what we think of as real life.

Then the singing.  Singing is the love of my life and it has kept me going through tough times.  Mike is an inspiring teacher and man and he is so generous and enthusiastic with teaching and encouraging you to sing as you always wanted to but thought you couldn’t.  Everyone, whatever level, feels part of things and is encouraged to do more than they thought they could.  Personally, I had always wanted to sing solos but, as I had come to singing later in my life, I thought I had missed the boat.  Not with Mike at the helm.  I was able to work on a song I had wanted to sing “Fields of Gold” and by the end of the week was perfectly comfortable performing it in our little concert for Mike and Carol’s family and friends.  What an achievement."
